A huge thank you to the Fire Fighters who joined us yesterday with the Fire Engine.

We had a great time!

Mr Cursiter showed us how to open and shut the hose.
We were having a wee shot to prepare us for playing with the water!

Here are some of our Fire Fighting Ladybirds!
Ready to go when the emergency call is received!

Now it's time to have some water fun with Fire Fighter Baz!
Look how high the water could go!

We had great fun spraying the windows, the roof, the walls and everything in our way!
Here are some of our Fire Fighting Butterflies.
We had great fun trying out the drivers seat.
Some of us loved the sound of the horn and the sirens. Some of us thought they were a little bit loud for our ears!
Here are some of the Bumblebees and Butterflies trying out the hose!
Look out everyone, there is a lot of water required to put out this fire!

Some very excited faces from the Butterflies as they have a go at using the hose!

Great excitement..Here comes the Fire Engine!
Let's hope there isn't a real fire!
Phew, no fire here just lots of fire fighting fun to be had.

How many Ladybirds can we fit in a Fire Engine?

Mr Cursiter tells us all about the hoses in the Fire Engine!
We all had our really good 'listening parts' on

What a super day we had!

We have also been busy following our interest in numbers this week.
Here are some of the Ladybirds very busy with the roll and write numbers.
Number Fun!
Shaving Foam fun!
The children have just loved exploring the shaving foam this week!
Today we visited the Primary 2 Assembly.
It was all about the planets. Many of us were very interested to find out more about this.
When we went back to the nursery, lots of us were very busy in the art room too.
We were busy sticking stars, drawing constellations and making moons with tin foil.

What a busy week!

Sorry it's been a little while since we have posted some pictures!
It's been a very busy couple of weeks here in the nursery.

Here are some pictures to let you know some of the many things we have been getting up to!

Last Friday we had a special Chinese snack to celebrate Chinese New Year and the year of the Rooster!

We opened up our own Chinese Take Away for the day.
We enjoyed our noodles, prawn crackers, soy sauce and sweet and sour sauce.
It was delicious and we all enjoyed it.

Here are some of the children busy in the art room, adding paint to our enormous Chinese Fan.
Once the paint was dry, we looked carefully at the letters in the Chinese Alphabet.
Some of us very carefully, added some of these letters on too.
It looks fab!

We were busy celebrating Burns Day too.
We all enjoyed some Scottish Dancing in the hall.
Mrs Smith is learning to play the Bagpipes.
She very kindly popped in to see us too.
She played on her Chanter and her bagpipes for us to hear.

Some of us had a wee try on the Chanter too.
Many of us had a wee play on Miss Begley's fiddle too.

We have been out and about the school with our binoculars and bird food too.

We all enjoyed our super walks around the school grounds.
We spotted seagulls, pigeons and blackbirds.
One group were very excited as they even spotted a seal too!

Peep!
Watch out the nursery are out and about!
Can you see us?

We have been out and about enjoying the lovely January days too.

Some of the children have been very keen to build more obstacle courses!
Balancing fun!

As the children continued their interest in the doctor role play, we had a very special visitor.

Ben visited the Monday pm session last week too!
A huge Thank You to Ben for popping in.
The children all had a fantastic visit.
Here we have our own little ambulance drivers!

Remember to keep looking back to find out what is happening in the nursery!

Here's a few more pics from last week that we forgot to share!

Lots of very busy, focussed little ones as they make their Cheerio Bird Feeders.

They are very busy developing their fine motor skills as they thread the Cheerios on to the pipe cleaners.

A really simple idea that the children and the birds loved!

Here are the Ladybirds busy making their fat balls.
The birds in Stomness were spoilt last week!

Parachute fun in the hall

We also had great fun using the Lycra for Rhymes and games in our key groups.

Pop back soon and see what else we are getting up to.

Welcome back!
Term 3 is flying in already!

The children have been interested in the ever changing weather throughout the week.
As we have been on weather watch, the children have become very interested in feeding the birds.

We had a really super visit from Lindsey who visited us from the RSPB on Thursday.
The children just loved her visit.
They all listened and participated so well. We are really proud of you all!

Lindsey demonstrated how to make fat balls for the birds to eat during the winter months.

We used dry porridge oats, raisins, suet, flour and bird seed.
We added this to Lindsey very sticky mixture!

We had to roll all of our ingredients onto the sticky mixture!
Then we could use our fingers to shape it.
Some of us made spheres while some made cylinder shapes. Lots of us made different shapes too!

We were also very busy further developing our fine motor skills on the tough spot this week.
Making Cheerio bird feeders proved to be very popular too!
Some of the children even enjoyed making Cheerio bracelets with the pipe cleaners and Cheerios.

When they were ready, we popped them in a bad to take home for the birdies.
Lindsey told us to pop them on the grass outside our homes.
We needed to remember not to place them where a cat might jump on the birds!

Some of our all day children made some extra fat balls.
We headed out to the pond area where we placed some fat balls out for the birds.
Lindsey has brought us some binoculars which we have had great fun trying out.
We are planning to use these next week as we do a little bit of bird watching.

Mixing in the flour. What fun!

Using our listening parts as Lindsey showed us some different birds.
We learnt about their appearance and their song.
We listened carefully to the different songs that they sang.

Adding in the raisins to our bowls.
Here we are mixing and squashing the ingredients together with our fingers.
Some of us loved the squishy mixture, others weren't too sure!

Merry Christmas Everyone......

It's coming... Not long now!!

Christmas officially arrived in the nursery last week.

Here are some of us are trying on our Santa hats as we headed through to the hall to have a wee practice for the Christmas songs!

Don't we look fab!

The wrapping station was very popular too!
We had lots of Santa's and Santa's little helpers busy wrapping lots of pressies!

We were loving to develop our cutting skills at we chopped wrapping paper and sellotape.
Great team work too as we worked together to hold the paper, while a friend stuck the sellotape down!

We now have lots of fully trained elves, ready to help you wrap at home too!

A huge Thank you to the Kitchen Staff who prepared a delicious Christmas Dinner on Friday.

Our Friday all day children had a great time!
We joined the rest of the school in the hall for our Christmas dinner and fun.

We also had a great time Outside, playing creatively and using our Imagination!
It is never too cold for an Outdoor Swimming Pool in the Stromness Nursery!

We were also busy reading and watching our final, Bookbug Picture Book Prize Book, Hare and the Tortoise.

We used this story as a stimulus for our hall time.
We set up obstacle courses and practiced moving both fast and slow, just like the Hare and the Tortoise.

On Friday, we all voted for our favourite story. Overall in the nursery most children voted for the Hare and the Tortoise story.

We also really enjoyed one of our small group activities this week.
We had a great time looking through our Learning files.
The children were excited to look at the pictures and drawings.
They had fantastic memories and communicate excellently about lots of the things they found in their folder.
This is an activity we plan to repeat on a more regular basis.

It's been a busy old week already in the nursery. Keep looking back for further updates before the holidays!
