Making links with World Book Day last week we have been out and about in the community this week!

On Monday we had a really super visit to the Stromness Library.

A huge 'Thank You' to the Ladies who work in the Library.
There were all fantastic!
Taking the time to show us the computer, how to stamp and date the books and much more..

A huge 'Thank You' to Sally who joined us from Book Bug too.
As always the children had a super time with Sally.

Here are some of the children using the scanner and date stamper.
Mini Librarians in the making.

Time to explore the lovely library space and watch the world go by!

Thank you to the many grown ups who joined us on our visit too.
The Nursery Team all truly appreciate your help and support.
Time to explore some wonderful literature in many forms.
The children enjoyed looking at the newspapers and books.
Time to enjoy the comfy seats and relax as we enjoy the literacy all around!

Time for some more date stamping.
Numeracy too!

Time for some Book Bug Fun!

One of our favourite things.
Lycra Fun!

Back in the nursery, the children have had great fun playing in their own 'role play' library too!

It has been very popular throughout the week so is remaining for another week or two

Time for some colouring too as we enjoy the pictures of book characters.

Back in the nursery we have been having some science experiment fun!
One of our children was interested to see the pigments of colour running down from his label when the ink got wet!

Following on from this interest, we had some fun doing the skittles experiment!
We were fascinated to watch the rainbow colours we could make.
We enjoyed mixing all the colours together and were interested to find out why it made brown!

We are planning some colour mixing fun over the next couple of weeks in response to their interest.

Mud, Mud, Glorious mud.....
Making soup in the mud outside this week.
What fun!

Using our imaginations and creativity as we play with the scrap store and loose parts.

As Spring is hopefully on it's way....
Many of the children are showing an interest in plants and flowers.
We set up a Flower Shop in the Play Dough Area this week.
It has been very popular!
Here are some of the children with their flower arrangements
Some of the children are busy painting flowers bouquets to display in their flowershop.
They look really super!

Last week as part of our small group activities we were very busy exploring the 'big' playground!

We had great fun exploring this area.
We used our 'helpful' parts and our 'good balancing' parts as we crossed the chain bridge.

Some of us had great fun exploring the wooden house too.
Some people explored the inside of the house.
Others enjoyed climbing up and over the roof.
We used our problem solving parts as we figured out how to get back down from the roof.

Some of us enjoyed playing inside the sculpture in the playground.
We called it the 'onion' as that's what we thought it looked like!

Some of us explored the Mugga. We had great fun with the balls and hoops.

Great fun painting in the art room!

We had great fun painting with the toys and cars.

We had great fun painting with the welly boots too!
We made some super paint footprints.

We had great fun visiting the hall where we could practice some more balancing skills.

We had such super fun that we are heading back to have some more balancing fun in the hall this week.

We tried something a little bit different at the writing table last week!
We had a go a writing and drawing under the table.
Lots of people who don't usually pick to play here decided that they wanted to play too.
It was great fun and very popular.
The next day we added drapes and lights too!

Sam Green, Iris' daddy joined us on Friday pm too.

Some of you might have seen him starting to work in our outdoor area!
We are delighted that Sam is working with us to develop our stone and sandpit area.
Last week he needed our help!

Sam came into speak to us about a dragon that he is busy carving in the sand area.
He asked us what we would like it to look like and for our ideas!

We were very excited to share our ideas. We drew a picture and showed these to Sam at the end of the afternoon.

Sam has taken a copy of our pictures away. These will help him to design the carvings for our Dragon!
And last but not least, time for a bit of baking in the nursery too.
Some of the children made delicious buns!

Here we are at the achievement assembly on Monday morning.
We are little super stars at sitting and joining in with the rest of the school.
Every week some of our boys and girls are receiving their head teacher awards for their hard work in the nursery.
Well Done!

We couldn't see Valentines Day pass without some potion making in the water tray!
Lots of pink and red and glitter fun!

Here's a photo that we forgot to share with you from last week.
Super imaginations in the construction area as we build a dance floor.
We even got our own red carpet out for our little super stars!
There was some excellent boat building too.

Big Art fun in the art room!
Lots of big muscle movements as we use big brushes, mops and scrappers.

A huge thank you to the Fire Fighters who joined us yesterday with the Fire Engine.

We had a great time!

Mr Cursiter showed us how to open and shut the hose.
We were having a wee shot to prepare us for playing with the water!

Here are some of our Fire Fighting Ladybirds!
Ready to go when the emergency call is received!

Now it's time to have some water fun with Fire Fighter Baz!
Look how high the water could go!

We had great fun spraying the windows, the roof, the walls and everything in our way!
Here are some of our Fire Fighting Butterflies.
We had great fun trying out the drivers seat.
Some of us loved the sound of the horn and the sirens. Some of us thought they were a little bit loud for our ears!
Here are some of the Bumblebees and Butterflies trying out the hose!
Look out everyone, there is a lot of water required to put out this fire!

Some very excited faces from the Butterflies as they have a go at using the hose!

Great excitement..Here comes the Fire Engine!
Let's hope there isn't a real fire!
Phew, no fire here just lots of fire fighting fun to be had.

How many Ladybirds can we fit in a Fire Engine?

Mr Cursiter tells us all about the hoses in the Fire Engine!
We all had our really good 'listening parts' on

What a super day we had!

We have also been busy following our interest in numbers this week.
Here are some of the Ladybirds very busy with the roll and write numbers.

The children have just loved exploring the shaving foam this week!
Today we visited the Primary 2 Assembly.
It was all about the planets. Many of us were very interested to find out more about this.
When we went back to the nursery, lots of us were very busy in the art room too.
We were busy sticking stars, drawing constellations and making moons with tin foil.

What a busy week!
