Walk to School Month

Well done to all the children who walked to school at least once a week this month.  All children who filled this in on the poster will receive their badge next week.

Our October poster has now been displayed in the foyer.  Can we please remind parents to colour in the football any day that your child walks all or part of the way to nursery?  If they walk once a week to nursery, they will receive a badge at the end of the month.

Autumn Leaves

We are going to looking for signs of Autumn next week.  This will be our song (tune of London Bridge).

The autumn leaves have fallen down,
fallen down, fallen down.
The wind he came and blew them round,
And blew them round.

Let's find a brush and start to sweep,
Start to sweep, start to sweep,
And make them into a great big heap,
Into a great big heap.

Week 6 in the nursery

We have been very busy this week again.
We have been making and wrapping presents for our families.
We have been writing labels for them too.

We were creating cards, writing lovely messages inside.
We were using the rainbow bells to help us sing our rainbow song.
We were reading stories to our babies and to our friends.
We set up a huge train track for the crane.
We used the map to help us find where the treasure was hidden in the nursery.
Outside we discovered the big jumping sacks and were having lots of fun figuring out how to jump in them.
We were playing colour matching games.
We were strengthening our hand muscles as we explored tin foil.  We were tearing it, cutting it, crumpling it, glueing it and squashing it.
We have been looking after our baby twins at the house.  We decided that we needed to buy a double buggy for them.  We knew that 'if you can't buy something in the shops here, just try ebay'!  We looked on ebay and found a buggy but we are going to try Orkney Merkit place first!
A lot of us had a go at the Snail Race game.  We were taking turns, sharing resources and learning our colours.
We had gloop on the messy table this week.  It was funny to play in because we could squish it, roll it, scoop it and it ran through our fingers.  We used lots of new descriptive words when we were talking about it.
We have been developing our planning skills this week.  We were using the fireman's hat as our talking tool.  We were thinking about what we wanted to do during work time and what we would need to do it.

I Can Sing a Rainbow

There have been a lot of rainbows in the sky this week and the children have been intrigued with them so have decided to sing the rainbow song next week and we will be looking out for more rainbows!

Red and yellow and pink and green
Orange and purple and blue
I can sing a rainbow
Sing a rainbow
Sing a rainbow too

Listen with your eyes
Listen with your eyes
And sing everything you see
You can sing a rainbow
Sing a rainbow
Sing along with me

The sun is yellow, the grass is green
Look how the sky is blue!
We can sing a rainbow
Sing a rainbow
Surely you can too

Listen with your eyes
Listen with your eyes
And sing everything you see
You can sing a rainbow
Sing a rainbow
Sing along with me

The sky is black, the clouds are white
And it’s raining too
But we can sing a rainbow
Sing a rainbow
Of happiness for you

Vivaldi and Shakers!

During work time some children asked if they would make shakers.  We all ended up making paper plate shakers with rice.  At the end of the session we listened to 'Spring' from Four Seasons by Vivaldi and the children were dancing fast and slow with the music and playing their shakers.

Week 5 in the nursery

We had blue salt on our messy table and we enjoyed drawing lots of different pictures.  Some of us made patterns with our fingers, some used brushes and one of us noticed that screwdrivers were excellent for drawing thin lines.  We liked using the big brushes to hide our pictures before drawing new ones.

We were also developing our drawing skills when using the magnadoodles at the writing table.  We liked that we could rub out our drawings when we were finished

Last week, a lot of us enjoyed exploring paint with our fingers and hands, swirling it around and making different patterns.  This week we had a look at this picture - Van Gogh's Starry Night and noticed that it had swirly patterns too.  We also noticed that it looked like a night picture with the moon and stars.  We saw that there was blue, black, yellow, white and gold in the picture.  We squirted these colours onto our art table and used our fingers to make swirly patterns.

When we were finished swirling all the paint around, we made prints by pressing some paper on top of our patterns.  When the prints are dry we are going to put them on our wall so please come in and have a look at our version of 'Starry Night'.

Song of the Week

Our song next week will be:

Incy Wincy Spider

Incy Wincy Spider climbed up the water spout.
Down came the rain and washed the spider out.
Out came the sunshine and dried up all the rain
and Incy Wincy Spider climbed up the spout again.

Week 4 in the nursery

We have had a lot of discussions regarding the olympics and the paralympics with some of the children creating their own Olympic events inside and outside the nursery.  One of our children requested that we had an obstacle race in the hall.  Here is a short video of some of us showing off our skills.

We have also been strengthening the peedie muscles in our hands as we explored the playdough.
Some of the boys and girls have been experimenting with the scales as they were weighing and measuring the flour on the messy table.
We have been very creative this week at the craft table with many of us getting our own paint, brushes and paper.
We found new tape measures in our tool box and have been measuring all around the nursery.

We were playing with letters and making the names of people we know on the white board.
We have been developing our house which now has a kitchen, bedroom and living room.  We have been busy cooking up all kinds of meals for the grown-ups!
In our planning time this week, some of us were phoning home to tell mummys, daddys, grandmas and friends to tell them what we were going to do during work time.

Show and Tell

The children have requested that we have a show and tell session.  We have planned for this next Tuesday 18th September.  Children normally bring in a small toy or have some news to share with the rest of the group.  We look forward to seeing what you bring in.

Sharing our song of the week

The afternoon children singing humpty dumpty.

Song of the Week

Our song next week will be:

Little Arabella Miller

Little Arabella Miller
Found a hairy caterpillar,
First it crawled upon her mother,
Then upon her baby brother.
All said, "Arabella Miller,
Take away that caterpillar!

Week 3 in nursery

What a busy week we have had.  On Monday and Tuesday we had some clay on our messy table so we were very imaginative and creative with the objects that we were making.
We fancied some scones for snack and we had lots of helpers to bake them.  We were very careful when reading the recipe and measuring out the ingredients. We also had to think about how many we would need to make so that everyone got one  They were delicious and many of the children asked if they could take the recipe home with them.  We thought we would add it below incase you wanted to try it too.

Our Delicious Scones

1lb plain flour
3oz butter or marg
2 level teaspoons bicarbonate of soda
4 level teaspoons cream of tartar

200-250ml of milk

Put all dry ingredients in a bowl.
Rub in butter/marg.
Add milk.
Pat out with hands and cut with cutter.
Brush with egg and milk.
Cook at 180 for 10-15 minutes.

We hope they taste as good as they did here.

On Thursday it was very rainy and Mr and Mrs Mole came into visit.  Mr and Mrs mole were feling rather sad as thier burrow was full of water. The children thought that we could use the big blocks from the construction corner to build them a new house.  We worked really well in teams to solve this problem, listening to each others ideas and helping each other.  We had many imaginative ideas, some of us even using the new material to create the roof.  Mr and Mrs Mole were very pleased with their new home.

We also had some knights in here this week who were very focused on building this superb castle and log fire.

Batman, Robin and the Batbaby were in visiting us this week and were using the bricks and cones to create their home and garage for the batmobile.

Some of us used the junk material to make our own houses. We learned how to use masking tape to stick things together.

The babies were getting a good wash in the water tray this week. We were exploring cloths and towels, talking about wet and dry.

What fun we have had!
